Since American universities’ top priority is sports, shouldn’t parents send their kids to school in the UK?

American universities give kids tons of scholarship money not because they study hard or any academic reason, but that they play sports; if you want your kids to learn anything, shouldn’t you send your kids here to the UK? We have sports but not tied to college scholarships.

I know, you guys want to find dumb kids from the ghettos, give them a football and a diploma so you can sell tickets and t-shirts and pat each other on the back. And all is justified in your country as bringing in money for the school.

If American parents really want to give their kids a good education you really need to send them to England.

How can I get $18,000 for college?

I have been accepted to Montana State University. I have registered for classes, I have a dorm secure, and I am already to go. However, I am having issues with the funds. F-Aid is able to give me all but $18,000 for the year. Meaning I need to raise $9,000 for the semester. I have tried over a dozen companies online, but I can’t get approved by anyone. I have even gone to many banks and they have turned me down for student loans. I have applied for grants and scholarships, but I have been rejected for those too. FASFA states that my family can afford to go and thus I can’t get any more aid from the government. And with my current family budget, we can’t afford to send me to school. And the biggest problem is that I am a middle class white male trying to go to school out of state (I live in Kentucky). I don’t know what else to do. School starts September 2nd and I need to have the funds secure by September 15th to prevent them from pulling me out of school. I don’t know what else do to!

If I took a year off of school, could I still apply for a Type 1 AFROTC Scholarship?

I graduated high school this year (2010), but didn’t learn of the Air Force ROTC until after the scholarship deadline. I took a year off of college in order to work for a year, so I could have some extra money to put towards college. Well, that and so I could reapply for the Air Force ROTC scholarship. Is it possible to still obtain a Type 1, considering I haven’t started college yet (I deferred my admission to CU Boulder to Fall of 2011), and in the meantime only taking online classes from said college over the year?

Do you think Connecticut is right to give college financial aid to the children of illegal aliens?

Even when the children aren’t even Americans?

Athlete’s Advantage at Williams College Early Decision?

Hey, I’m a high school junior running cross country and indoor/spring track in Connecticut, and I’m pretty sure I’m good enough to compete at the D3 level. How much of an advantage will this give me if I apply Early Decision to Williams College and say that I WILL run there?

SAT I: 690 CR, 710 M, 700 W

SAT II: 730 Chemistry, 770 Math II, 640 Biology (ugh, but 5 on AP exam though)

GPA: 3.9882 UW (Most rigorous honors/AP course load possible)

Class Rank ~top 5% (I’m guessing) out of 200 at a tremendously competitive high school

EC: 4 years School Chorus, 4 Years Class Committee, 2 Years in a club that raises money for poor/starving children in Africa, 4 Weeks Foreign Language Program in France (accepted under a full scholarship), 4 Years Varsity Cross Country, 3 Years Varsity Indoor Track, and 3 Years Varsity Spring Track

Volunteering: 50 Hours-building houses for poor families in local communities (also with Habitat for Humanity), babysitting neighbors

Leadership: Captain of Cross Country, Indoor Track, and Spring Track

Hooks: White Male (lol), only one of my parents went to college, and my athletic ability might be good enough for D3 schools

How the hell do people pay for college?

So here’s my history.

When I was in high school, I worked my ass off. I got amazing grades, I saved up money for university applications. I got acceptance letters from most of them. Then, reality. I’m living with a single parent who has seen two kids drop out and been through bankruptcy. Looking at the costs, I couldn’t cover any of them. No scholarships would’ve made any substantial impact, loans would’ve only helped a little… Ultimately I would’ve still been required to pull 15-20k a year out of my ass. So I went to community college. And now, I’ve wasted two years there. Just sitting around. Taking the stupidest fucking classes, with the driest materials/teachers you can imagine. And hey! I still can’t afford shit. Nothing. I’m sitting on all these acceptance letters but I feel like I’m screwed here. My Mom makes too much for me to qualify for anything, and yet she won’t spare a dime to help finance university.

So what the fuck should I do at this point? Two years ago, I was completely thrilled about everything. Now, my situation is looking worse every day. I haven’t a fucking clue. I’m pretty goddamn close to giving up on this shit.

So, can you think of ANY options I have here? Anyone?

School screwed me over now im stuck w studen loans and cant legally work in the feild I graduated in. ?

I am so lost I have no idea what to do! I am almost 23 now and when I was 20 I decided I wanted to go to school to become a massage therapist. I enrolled at a school called ACT ( advanced career training) I was told I would be able to work right after I graduated and that I didn’t have to be licensed to work as a massage therapist. They tossed me around between instructors, one got fired, one quit, one would show up 2 hours late and had no hands on training I didnt feel like I learned anything until my last 2 months with my last teacher. Anyways, less than a month before I graduate I am told that I actually do have to be licensed to practice massage therapy starting the month I graduate but that the ciriculum taught did not include everything I needed to know to pass the national test , which i needed in order to get my license. So I graduate with a massage therapy certificate that month, knowing I couldnt do anything with it I didnt know what to do. The school refused to refund me, they said I could take a 3 hour refresher coarse for a few hundred dollars…….I shouldnt have to do that when I payed them 12,000 in tuition and cant even work. I signed up to take the test anyways. The school was going to pay for the first test. They end up giving me a different date than the actual testing center gave me so I missed it and my free test was gone. To take another one would cost alot of money……….knowing i would most likely fail I couldnt waste 200 bucks. I dont know ANYONE from that school who has graduate and working as a massage therapist. So they admit they didnt teach me what I needed to make it out there in that feild. I called them so many times asking for direction or anything because I was going to have to pay back student loans in 6 months. They never returned my calls, everytime I called the last person quit or got fired so I had to explain everything again. They werent willing to do anything. I got a defferment for a year. Now I am almost 23, expecting a baby any day now, not working due to my pregnancy and wont be working for at least another year and the student loans have come to haunt me. I have debt collectors calling and my husband shouldnt have the responsibility of paying MY loans. I dont know what to do, who to talk to, im not the kind of person to want to sue for 100,000 dollars…….I just feel like I got screwed in this entire deal and I dont want to be stuck with these loans that I cant pay. Now the school has NO massage therapy program anymore and no one knows anything. As if it never exsisted. I have no idea what i can do if I can do anything……..Any advice would be greatly appriciated.

If you were a Judge how would you handle my case?

Hi I joined an online university back in Jan. 06′. My husband received military orders to Japan; I had to go with him. I notified the school that I would need to ‘drop out’ since I would not have internet access. They told me to provide them with my husbands’ military orders and marriage certificate by fax and they would be able to credit the term with out drop fees. I faxed the documents. September 06′ comes, and there’s a charge of $3,460 on my student loan account. They never applied the credit. I made complaint to the Better Business Bureau on Sept. 21, 2006. I explained how I did not feel the education method was for me with sporadic moves, and how they basically provide you with text books, tell you to read, and give you writing assignments. I can get the same education at a local library without the $3,460 charge. Before I began I was told by financial aid that my total out of pocket expense for the 2 years would only be $6,000. However, I was charged $3,460 just for 1 semester
plus 10 days. I have found other complaints online from previous students of Kaplan that had the same problem, they were told differently. The credits I earned are not transferable to any local colleges in my area, regardless of what I was told before joining. Since the online learning method is not for me the credits are not any good to me but I owe a large amount of money. My complaint resolution I asked for was a refund in full of $3,460. Kaplan responded to my BBB complaint with the following statement “We have thoroughly reviewed Ms. ___complaints and she is correct in that an online university is not ideal for everyone. We empathize with Ms. Cvetnich and as a result processed a refund to her account. If you have any further concerns, please feel free to contact me.” I gave Kaplan a month to apply the credit, which nothing was ever applied. I contacted the person who responded to my complaint. She stated that a credit was applied in JULY 2006. I made my complaint
complaint in Sept. 2006. The credit she was talking about was an amount that they owed back to me for money that was transferred to them, however once I had to drop out, I didn’t owe the full amount. I discussed this back and forth with her. Then she started ignoring my emails. I wanted to use email so that I would have documentation of what was said and what wasn’t, since Kaplan had told me on the phone that they would not charge me for the 10 days or fees when my husband got the military orders, but the credit wasn’t applied for that, and there’s no documentation, she even said they can’t find my doc’s I faxed to them. Her boss started writing to me, she basically told me I wasn’t going to get any refund, regardless of what they stated to the BBB complaint, and that they don’t give credit for opinions. She then ignored 3 emails, and then gave me her contact information so that my lawyer could contact her. She basically told me she didn’t want to deal with me anymore.
Everyone I have spoken to at Kaplan tell me differently then the other, they’re not on the same page. I do not understand how they can tell the BBB that they are going to apply a refund, but never do, and decide that they are not going to now. My question is, I will most likely have to go to small claims court, if you were dealing with this case just from what you know now, is Kaplan obligated to give me a refund now that they made the statement in writing that they would? I will have to travel from VA to FL to take them to court, can I claim travel, missing work, and court fees?
